The tape "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" owed its success to the brilliant synthesis of the original literary source (the novel of the same name by M. Kotsyubynskyi), directing, cinematography and artistic skill, music, and acting. That is why the success of this film was shared between director S. Paradzhanov, cameraman Yu. Illenko, artist H. Yakutovych, composer M. Skoryk, actors I. Mykolaichuk, L. Kadochnikova.

Some sections are frankly polemical in nature. The authors reserve the right to the original interpretation of classical works, although sometimes their interpretations seem too paradoxical. This can be said about the essays written by O. Musienko and O. Sydor-Ghibelinda.

His films, among which the Birth of a Nation and Intolerance should be especially noted, enriched not only US cinema, but also the entire world cinema with new means of expression, improvement of the specifics of montage (parallel montage). Extremely interesting experiments are taking place at the same time and on the other side of the ocean - in the countries of Eastern Europe, in particular in Russia, where directors Ya. Protazanov, V. Gardin, E. Bauer, whose work was connected with the flourishing of the melodrama genre, are actively working.
