In films in the genre of fantasy, the original ideological and aesthetic guideline is the superiority of imagination over reality. A picture of a "wonderful world" is created, contrasted with everyday reality and familiar, everyday notions of plausibility. Fantasy and horror films are closely related genres of cinematography. Most of the popular plots of film fiction are borrowed from legends and myths. However, cinematography has its advantages over books: it is able to realize any ideas in a visual form, impressive with unique special effects. Film fiction is divided into "science fiction", "fantasy" and "horror films".

The French "new wave" is directly associated with the work of J.L. Godard - "On the Last Breath"; F. Truffaut - "400 blows"; A. Rene - "Hiroshima, my love." The films of these directors were characterized by improvisation, reportage, which enabled artists to depict the absurdity of the world, the cruel laws of society that oppress the individual. The French invariance of the philosophy of existentialism, which was represented by the concepts of J.-P. Sartre, A. Camus and S. de Beauvoir.

The second period - the flowering of the artist's talent - led to the creation of O. Dovzhenko's "Slavic trilogy": "Zvenigora", "Arsenal". "Earth", which testified to the mythopoetic vision of the director, which was reflected in the visual construction of these tapes and had a significant impact on the further development of world cinema. The film "Ivan" performed the function of a "plastic bridge" to the third period in the work of O. P. Dovzhenko - the period of "two Stalinist decades", which resulted in the films "Aerograd", "ITsors", "Michurin". In the work of the director, ancient Slavic mythological ideas, the specifics of Ukrainian national self-awareness, and the philosophical understanding of common human meaningful life problems were organically combined, which led to the introduction of O. P. Dovzhenko's characters into the European cultural context.
