Ukrainian film art of the 1950s-1990s in feature films is connected with the work of R. Balayan, M. Belikov, L. Bykov, V. Braun, A. Bukovsky, V. Gresya, V. Denysenko, K. Yershov, V. Ivanova, V. Ivchenko, Yu. Ilyenka, O. Itigilova, G. Kokhan, V. Kryshtofovych, T. Levchuk, Ya. Lupiya, M. Mashchenko, I. Mykolaychuk, K. Muratova, O. Muratova, L. Osyka, S. Parajanova, B. Savchenko, P. Todorovsky, L. Shvachka, etc.; in documentary cinema - S. Bukovsky, O. Koval, M. Mamedov, O. Shklyarevsky, etc.; in popular science cinema - V. Olender, O. Rodnyansky, A. Serebrenikov, F. Sobolev, etc.; in animation - V. Dakhna, D. Cherkasky and others.

Another vivid example is the film festival "Open Night", which for the 24th year in a row opens new Ukrainian names in the field of cinematography and television production. "We. For us. About myself" is the motto of the festival, which carries fundamental for today theses regarding Ukrainian-language cinema. The main goal of the festival is to support national cinema, joint and foreign films that preserve the traditions of Ukrainian cinematography. Everyone who wants to can present his film, the two main conditions are the Ukrainian language and a twenty-minute film duration.

That is why, when studying the cinematography of the 1930s, two important aspects should be taken into account: the social one, which prevailed in the cinematography of the Soviet period, German cinema and the cinematography of the United States, and the ontological one, which gave an impetus to the understanding of the processes that took place in the French cinematography of the specified period.

At the same time, an extremely interesting phenomenon is forming in the art of cinema - the "star system". In fact, each genre of game cinema had its own "stars". In the melodrama, they were F. Bertini, E. Santos, M. Jacobini (Italy), A. Nilsson (Denmark), V. Kholodna and I. Mozzhukhin (Russia), R. Valentino (USA); in an adventure film - Musidora (France), W. Hart and D. Fairbanks (USA); the success of the comic drama was associated with the name of the great French actor M. Linder, whose creative output had a significant impact on the development of this genre in world cinema in general and on the work of the world comedy classic Charlie Chaplin in particular.

Modern Ukrainian war documentaries 2014-? In the conditions of the war since the beginning in the territory of Donbas, the annexation of Crimea and today's full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, a "cinema boom" has been observed. "Cyborgs" (2017), "Callsign Banderas" (2018), "Volunteers of God's Chota" (2015), "On the Line of Fire" (2017), "War of Chimera" (2017), "Debaltseve" (2016). And this is only a part of the tapes that appeared on our screens between 2014 and today. All of them are high-quality, dramatic, vivid, and most importantly, Ukrainian, depicting for Ukrainians and the world everything that happened and is happening during the war in our country. Today, it is possible to confidently predict an even bigger "cinema boom" that will happen after Ukraine's victory in the war with Russia. After all, unfortunately, there will be something to show. Moreover, not only Ukrainians, but also foreign artists will shoot. Bo Willimon — an American playwright and screenwriter (screenwriter of "House of Cards") — has already voiced his desire to shoot a documentary about the crimes and genocide committed by the Rashists in the Ukrainian town of Bucha. According to the Buchansk City Council, the screenwriter is already collecting materials while in Ukraine.
