A musical film is a musical or an operetta transferred from the stage to the screen. Attributes of these films are a large number of songs, dances, bright costumes and scenery. A musical film must have elements of melodrama.

Charles Spencer Chaplin (1889–1977) is an American film actor and film director. The phenomenon of Ch. Chaplin is the embodiment of the theory of "author's cinema" (the artist simultaneously acted as a screenwriter, director, actor, and composer in most of his films). His artistic output will forever remain in the history of world cinematography as a bright example of interpretation of the "comic" category. Chaplin's creative path includes three stages. The first is the period of the artist's formation, when experience was accumulated, active experimentation was carried out in the field of form and style, pictorial structure.

Some sections are frankly polemical in nature. The authors reserve the right to the original interpretation of classical works, although sometimes their interpretations seem too paradoxical. This can be said about the essays written by O. Musienko and O. Sydor-Ghibelinda.

The systematization and generalization of important material is carried out by the research of H. Filkevich "Pages of the history of film music in Ukraine" and the investigation of O. Ravlyuk-Holitsyna, dedicated to the art of cinematography in Ukraine. These topics, which were only episodically highlighted in the domestic film opinion, seem to us to be extremely promising. After all, it is no secret that the cinematography school of Ukrainian cinema has an undeniable authority all over the world. The material of the essay itself has considerable potential. The same can be said about the perspective of covering the history of film music in Ukraine (emphasis on the wide use of folk melos, which works to strengthen the emotionally meaningful coloring of screen images).

At the same time, an extremely interesting phenomenon is forming in the art of cinema - the "star system". In fact, each genre of game cinema had its own "stars". In the melodrama, they were F. Bertini, E. Santos, M. Jacobini (Italy), A. Nilsson (Denmark), V. Kholodna and I. Mozzhukhin (Russia), R. Valentino (USA); in an adventure film - Musidora (France), W. Hart and D. Fairbanks (USA); the success of the comic drama was associated with the name of the great French actor M. Linder, whose creative output had a significant impact on the development of this genre in world cinema in general and on the work of the world comedy classic Charlie Chaplin in particular.
