Film festivals Today, the Ukrainian film industry is at the stage of its heyday and is reaching the level of popularity. This is confirmed by the large number of events that support and promote Ukrainian cinema. An example of one of these events is the "Modern Ukrainian Cinema" festival, which took place on the territory of the Mykhailo Hrushevsky Odesa Regional Scientific Library. Everyone who wanted to could watch modern Ukrainian cinema for free, which was presented at international film festivals: "Home" (2019, drama), "My thoughts are quiet" (2019, tragicomedy), "Myth" (2017, documentary), "Cool 1918" ( 2018, historical), "The city in which money does not circulate" (2018, fantasy).

Some sections are frankly polemical in nature. The authors reserve the right to the original interpretation of classical works, although sometimes their interpretations seem too paradoxical. This can be said about the essays written by O. Musienko and O. Sydor-Ghibelinda.

The systematization and generalization of important material is carried out by the research of H. Filkevich "Pages of the history of film music in Ukraine" and the investigation of O. Ravlyuk-Holitsyna, dedicated to the art of cinematography in Ukraine. These topics, which were only episodically highlighted in the domestic film opinion, seem to us to be extremely promising. After all, it is no secret that the cinematography school of Ukrainian cinema has an undeniable authority all over the world. The material of the essay itself has considerable potential. The same can be said about the perspective of covering the history of film music in Ukraine (emphasis on the wide use of folk melos, which works to strengthen the emotionally meaningful coloring of screen images).

Action (action) is a genre of film art that illustrates the well-known thesis: "Goodness must have fists." The main character faces evil. Not finding the possibility of a peaceful solution to the situation, he resorts to violence, as a result of which dozens and sometimes hundreds of villains are destroyed. "Happy end" is an indispensable attribute of an action movie, evil must be punished.

The appearance of "Essays" was a qualitatively new step in the development of domestic film studies. A wide range of scientists belonging to different schools and directions in film studies took part in the work. The authors did not set themselves the goal of consistently covering all stages of the formation and development of cinematography on the territory of Ukraine. But, without a doubt, the compilers and authors managed to focus on key moments, trace the most important regularities of the filmmaking process. Issues that have remained on the margins of the historical science of cinema have come into focus. Separate chapters are devoted to both local phenomena and entire historical stages, and the authors mostly build their research on a solid theoretical foundation.
