Film festivals Today, the Ukrainian film industry is at the stage of its heyday and is reaching the level of popularity. This is confirmed by the large number of events that support and promote Ukrainian cinema. An example of one of these events is the "Modern Ukrainian Cinema" festival, which took place on the territory of the Mykhailo Hrushevsky Odesa Regional Scientific Library. Everyone who wanted to could watch modern Ukrainian cinema for free, which was presented at international film festivals: "Home" (2019, drama), "My thoughts are quiet" (2019, tragicomedy), "Myth" (2017, documentary), "Cool 1918" ( 2018, historical), "The city in which money does not circulate" (2018, fantasy).

Crime detection, "resolving relations" between gangster groups, etc., become the basis of crime film plots. The actions of the films take place mainly in the USA in the 1930s and 1940s. Karate films differ little from ordinary action films. But in the confrontation between the characters of karate films, the bet is not on the use of firearms, but on hand-to-hand combat using the techniques of oriental martial arts.

The appearance of "Essays" was a qualitatively new step in the development of domestic film studies. A wide range of scientists belonging to different schools and directions in film studies took part in the work. The authors did not set themselves the goal of consistently covering all stages of the formation and development of cinematography on the territory of Ukraine. But, without a doubt, the compilers and authors managed to focus on key moments, trace the most important regularities of the filmmaking process. Issues that have remained on the margins of the historical science of cinema have come into focus. Separate chapters are devoted to both local phenomena and entire historical stages, and the authors mostly build their research on a solid theoretical foundation.
