The US film industry has developed a system of multi-genre independent cinema: both cult films and creative experiments by directors. As a rule, these are low-budget films made by little-known directors. "Independent films" are mainly non-commercial films that bring maximum profit to their creators, such as blockbusters, and therefore in them you can often see some creative experiments. Most often, it is from "independent" cinema that world-class stars emerge: for example, the debut film of the famous K. Tarantino was the film "Mad Dogs", which is now called a classic of independent cinema.

However, the worldwide fame of the cinematography of the Soviet period of the 20s of the 20th century was undoubtedly associated with the names of its classics - S. M. Eisenstein (1898–1948), V. I. Pudovkin (1893–1953) and our great compatriot O. P. Dovzhenka. S. M. Eisenstein's creative output was presented not only by his films "Strike", "Battleship "Potemkin", "October", which contributed to the enrichment of the film language and cinematic image in the art of cinema in general, but also by significant theoretical developments in the field of "intellectual cinema", installation problems, etc.

In films in the genre of fantasy, the original ideological and aesthetic guideline is the superiority of imagination over reality. A picture of a "wonderful world" is created, contrasted with everyday reality and familiar, everyday notions of plausibility. Fantasy and horror films are closely related genres of cinematography. Most of the popular plots of film fiction are borrowed from legends and myths. However, cinematography has its advantages over books: it is able to realize any ideas in a visual form, impressive with unique special effects.
