The tape "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" owed its success to the brilliant synthesis of the original literary source (the novel of the same name by M. Kotsyubynskyi), directing, cinematography and artistic skill, music, and acting. That is why the success of this film was shared between director S. Paradzhanov, cameraman Yu. Illenko, artist H. Yakutovych, composer M. Skoryk, actors I. Mykolaichuk, L. Kadochnikova.

This fate did not escape actors: yes, John Wayne, Ridley Scott were associated with westerns, Edward Robinson - with gangster films, John Crawford and Barbara Stanwyck - with melodramas, Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi - with horror films, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone - with action films, Jim Carrey, Leslie Nilsson - with comedies. The US film industry has developed a system of multi-genre independent cinema: both cult films and creative experiments by directors. As a rule, these are low-budget films made by little-known directors. "Independent films" are mainly non-commercial films that bring maximum profit to their creators, such as blockbusters, and therefore in them you can often see some creative experiments.
